Skincare that is truly cruelty free and vegan is rare. Even brands that claim to tick both boxes are merely exploiting loopholes and it often takes some research to discover the truth. As someone that is completely committed to only using products that are strictly free from animal exploitation, I relish any opportunity to experience, share and review brands and products that are ethically produced as well as achieving results. So let’s get stuck in to my 100% honest review of the Typology range.
The skincare in the this review was gifted, I was not asked to share any content in return. However, I am passionate about helping others discover cruelty free skincare and sharing my honest review of the products I’ve received may help you find the perfect brand for you.
Typology is a new brand founded by Made.com’s founder Ning Li. The brand aims to revolutionise the skincare industry with a focus on high quality ingredients to create a premium and affordable line with transparency and simplicity at its heart. The products are only available online and the brand is committed to ethical philosophies from their packaging to their B Corp status.
All the products are formulated and produced in France and I couldn’t wait for them to arrive. The team at Typology selected a range of products for me try based on my skin type but there is also an online diagnostic tool that helps to match you with your ideal routine.
My skin type is tricky, I suffer with congestion, large pores and an oily t-zone but I’m also keen to target signs of ageing. Those two demographics of skincare are often at opposite ends of the product spectrum and I was interested to see how my complex skincare needs would be tackled.
Cleansing bars are a great choice for those who are looking for a packaging free option. This foaming cleanser contains eucalyptus globulus essential oil, spearmint essential oil and nettle powder to leave oily skins feeling refreshed.
I did love the bar format but found this formulation a touch drying for my skin. I also prefer a cleanser that I can take over the eye area so although this particular product was not for me, it would be a great choice for teens in need of a gentle, affordable cleanser.
I’m a huge advocate of the double cleanse system and using this sensitive skin friendly Micellar made for a wonderful gentle first cleanse to remove all my make-up before cleansing my skin. It removed all traces of make-up and is gentle enough to use around the eyes. I also used it without a second cleanse on a few evenings where I was just too lazy for the full nightly ritual and my skin felt great the next day.
This product does not have the chemical feel that other brands of micellar water I’ve tried had. A big thumbs up from me
Such a gentle toner! I was a little worried that I’d be left with that tight face feeling but how wrong I was. The hydrolate solution leaves skin feeling fresh and soothed without any tightness. This formulation can also be used to soothe sunburn – a testament to how gentle this product is! This is my ideal morning toner to wipe away the night’s sleep and leaving my skin feeling refreshed.
I’ve been a fan of salicylic acid for a long time and have tried various brands, one of which burned a close friend when she left it on a little too long. This blemish serum is gentle yet potent and dabbing a drop onto a newly formed skin nemesis will send it on it’s way with no horrible dry and dehydrated skin. Another must-have in my skincare arsenal!
I’d never tried azelaic acid before and was intrigued to see what short and long term benefits could be achieved. Instantly, skin is left more matte after pressing a few drops into the skin. After four weeks I found my oily t-zone was a little more balanced. I’ll definitely keep using as it helps my foundation last longer throughout the day around my oily areas – a great problem solver.
Oh my! I love this product so much! I can never and will never run out! I know not all skin types love Retinol, but mine really does. Just four drops massaged into freshly cleansed skin each night delivers beautifully plumped and firmed skin the next morning. Even though it’s in an oil base, I have no break outs and I cannot live without it. Plus, it’s an absolute steal as so little goes such a long way. Don’t buy it because I want it all. Thanks!
Another bottle of skin problem solving joy. I use this around my more wrinkly prone areas: the neck, laughter lines and orbital area for an anti-aging boost that can be layered beneath my usual products without overloading my oily skin. Also great for boosting my daytime moisturiser when the weather turns cooler by mixing adding a few drops to my usual sized application.
The Typology Verdict?|
What I love about Typology is the ability to create bespoke skincare by having an arsenal of serums that you can mix and blend to apply to different areas to ensure even complex skincare needs are met. The range is also pretty affordable, particularly if you don’t buy everything at once. Many of the serums are available in smaller 15ml sizes too. Cruelty free beauty has never been so appealing!
I am keen to explore their eye products and also their cream based moisturisers too. As soon as my current products run out I’ll be splurging on the website and will keep you posted on my thoughts!
