M&S Christmas food is a central part of my family’s festive celebrations and always has been. If you read my recent post from M&S, you will be aware of the long-standing tradition of heading in-store to buy our M&S Christmas luxuries; good cheese, delicious biscuits chocolates and puddings. As the years have gone on, that has stretched to include more and more of their wonderful food, so you can only imagine my excitement when I was invited to attend the M&S Christmas Food & Drink Press Show 2018…
Last Year’s Favourite’s
Last year, I fell in love with quite few of M&S’ Christmas range and as I journeyed to London on the train, I was hoping to spot some of my beloved tastes return. If I’m completely honest, I will admit that I’d already picked up a selection of chocolates and shortbread the week before going to the press show. I so love collecting a little Christmas food stash at my Mum’s. It stops Mr SV from munching everything before the festivities begin. However, I was hoping to see the return of Applewood smoked stuffing, which became something of an obsession last year
A Festive Welcome
The day was un-seasonally warm as I walked through the streets of Embankment, but one glance of a twinkling tree and the sound of Christmas Music and I was transported to the magic of December. Glasses of the wonderfully new Christmas Gin, served with tonic and twist of orange were served on arrival and was the perfect start to the fun.
Must-have M&S Christmas Treats
I cannot tell you how amazing everything looked, smelled and tasted. It was Victoria heaven! From the perfect Roast Turkey to festive gifts and flowers to the finest Christmas drinks, absolutely everything exceeded all expectations. There were also things to do, during the press show I hand-filled and decorated my own profiteroles, decorated a chocolate Christmas tree and made my very own espresso martini.
Vegan and Vegetarian Christmas
This year, M&S have really focussed on expanding their range vegan and vegetarian Christmas food and I couldn’t be happier. This year, M&S have introduced a range of options for the vegetable lovers. In party food, the vegan burgers were out-of-this world yummy and were quite possibly the yummiest savoury dish I enjoyed – the vegan burger sauce is ‘oh-my!’ good. Whether you eat meat or not – you need them. Just saying…
I also had my eye on the baked ricotta stacks, topped with mushrooms, leeks and kale and drizzled with a white wine sauce, this would be a wonderful meal for any lucky guest on the big day. Scrumptious!
Victoria’s M&S Christmas List
Yes, I did want everything and had to fight to keep my hands to myself. But, there were a few items that are on my Christmas food shopping list:
1. Santa’s Rooftop Chocolate & Caramel Yule Log
My inner child is never far away and at Christmas, she is firmly in the driving seat. Yule log is my Christmas must have. I love tucking into to a huge chocolatey slice with a glass of prosecco in front of Christmas TV (I’m so chic.). There is something about this Yule log that serves my inner child and my not-so-inner greedy foodie. This is more than a Yule log, this is pure Christmas magic – I can almost hear the sleigh bells.
2. Maple Sticky Glaze
All I’ve been able to think about is drizzling this over potatoes and parsnips and roasting them in the oven. Seconded only by the urge to drizzle over parsnips, before roasting them and turning them into a vat of maple-glazed roast parsnip soup. I’m actually drooling. I may also already have a secret stash of aforementioned glaze in the pantry.
3. Prosecco Mincemeat
The loveliest twist to happen to mincemeat in years. I love the ritual of making mince pies and mincemeat strudel and even just warm mincemeat with ice-cream and the addition of prosecco is just what I’ve been waiting for. I cannot wait to get baking with this.
As the day progressed, glasses of the M&S’s Champagne Delacourt Brut were served, with notes of grilled nuts and a hint of citrus, I think it might be my favourite champagne and it’s just perfect for festive celebrations.
Just a few more pictures
It was such a lovely day and last weekend I squealed with delight as my local branch started to fill their shelves with Christmas food. So let the M&S Christmas countdown begin.
