Can you believe it? Monty has been crowned runner-up in Canine Cottages’ national Canine Critics competition. He was as surprised to have made it so far as we were…
Canine Cottages specialise in helping connect pawrents and their puppers with the perfect holiday cottage for their next UK break. As a mutt momma who would never dream of leaving Monty behind, I’m a huge fan of any company that embraces the special connection that we have with our fur-babies.
Canine Critics 2019
Each year, Canine Cottages holds a nationwide hunt for a pack of specially selected Canine Critics. A team of holidaying hounds that can share their adventures and tips on how to make the most of your poochtastic stay.
If you know Monty’s story, you will know that whatever his life was like for the first 7 years, he somehow found himself in a very sorry state – homeless and emaciated on the streets of Birmingham. Between a Tesco home shopping delivery van, my brother (armed with a bacon sarnie) and me in my PJs (It was past 9pm when he was found – what do you expect?), Monty went from stay to bae, one week before Christmas 2017. Obviously, the idea of him off on his hols with his woman servant (me) in tow – sounds like holiday bliss. We (I – he napped) worked tirelessly to submit our application.
The Canine Cottages Winners
Many weeks and almost 52000 applications later, Canine Cottages announced their pack of Canine Critics – you have to check them out – they’re the cutest! We wish them all the very best of luck and the happiest of times on their adventures!
They also created a brand new runner-up category of runner-up-pups and my beautiful badger boy was named a one for the Midlands. We are absolutely delighted! Check out all the runner-up details in the Canine Cottage post.
The Runner-up Prize
The Canine Critic team sent Monty his own letter with a certificate that is currently pride of place in the office and they also gifted him a very generous £300 voucher to put towards a Canine Cottages Stay.
An Autumn Stay in Devon
The last break I had was when I visited Dimpsey Glamping in 2015 (yes, 2015!). With Arthur (my late golden boy) being so unwell before he passed and welcoming Monty into our lives, I just haven’t thought about going away. But, the idea of taking Monty with us is a whole different situation. So, we have booked a 3 night stay at the Puffin’s Nest in the Autumn. I actually burst into tears when the wonderful Canine Cottages advisor confirmed it was all booked. (I’m truly an embarrassment to myself).
I think it was a huge overwhelming moment on knowing we will be enjoying a little break this year but mostly the idea of Monty on holiday – long walks, beach runs and cosy nights with wonderful food. It’s making me well up again! I can’t thank Canine Cottages enough.
The Holiday Countdown
So now the countdown has started. I’ve already started to list things to pack, begun to think about places to go and Monty’s holiday shopping has started. A boy needs to be ready for all occasions for their first holiday. We can’t wait! Here’s a sneak peek of a little something that arrived today.
Whilst Monty’s voucher was a prize and we have not been asked to share anything during our stay, for all those that helped fundraise for him and have supported him over the last 21 months, I will absolutely be capturing his first holiday highlights for you all to see. (I’m going to cry again!)
Also as a breed that doesn’t have much luck in the UK, we have always tried to show what beautiful, loving and gentle dogs Staffordshire puddings really are. You should adopt one, no really!
