This is a paid partnership with Marks and Spencer
A wardrobe update is essential for the summer style season. Gone are the big knits and chunky boots in favour of lighter fabrics, brighter colours and patterns. Summer fashion is my favourite, it exudes a stylish sense of calm and carefree that I always need in my life, so when Marks and Spencer invited me along to their Birmingham store to see the latest releases in their High Summer collection, I simply couldn’t resist.
Marks & Spencer, Birmingham
The Birmingham store has recently undergone a stylish refresh; the look is sleek, modern, light and airy. What particularly stuck me was how beautifully styled the instore mannequins were, featuring wearable trends and style that lured me out of my comfort zone.
It was so inspiring to be surrounded by fashion-forward outfits that helped me to spot must-have items and guide my accessory choices. Fit & Style, inclusive bra fitting that caters to transgender and post-mastectomy patients and click and collect for those late night online orders make this store a hub of high-fashion convenience.
Fit & Style Service
Marks and Spencer’s new in-store styling service has recently launched at the Birmingham branch. With just a few details taken when you book, expert style advisors will pre-select a selection of garments to inspire your personal shopping experience to ensure that you leave with a look, capsule or full wardrobe of stylish wear that fits you perfectly.
Ellie looked after me and she was fantastic; suggesting pieces that would work together, selecting alternative sizes, colours or garments and sharing her thoughts on the looks that I tried on. When I’d selected the finished outfits, Ellie took me straight to the payment desk and processed my new looks. I’d definitely use Fit & Style again, I loved the personal service and I genuinely feel it helped me to put together the perfect high summer ensemble. So perfect for those events when you have nothing to wear and need to create the perfect outfit.
In the Fitting Room
High Summer Trends: Colour Blocking and Slogan Tees
I love the fitting room! It’s a real opportunity to experiment with colour, fit and shape with a whole collection at your fingertips. Colour blocking and almost-neon hues are continuing their fashion moment on the catwalks, so I couldn’t resist the button detailed fit and flare skirt in a gorgeous striking pink.
I normally go for more flowing midi-skirt shapes, but the button detail and structured stretch cotton shape was really flattering. This makes for a really versatile summer choice that can be styled in so many ways.
For daytime, I paired the skirt with a long-sleeve slogan t shirt and pumps for a cool, casual vibe. Faux leather and a lace bralet unite to create an evening look that exudes fashionista status. This skirt is firmly at the top of my wishlist!
High Summer Trends: Animal Print
I am obsessed with all things animal print, I can’t get enough! The summer collection offers lots of variations on the classic leopard print. I loved the animal print long sleeved midi dress, it offers a really flattering silhouette that I paired with bold stiletto heel pointed court and a chic clutch bag for an elegant style statement.
My Marks Fave Summer Style
Summer Style 1 – Power Florals
You know when you’ve found the perfect dress and the cotton floral print shirt dress was love at first sight. The combination of boho-infused maxi skirt and confident floral print makes for serious summer style.
Tailored from responsibly sourced cotton, the dress is perfect for summer days and nights, the fit is comfortable and I added a contrasting woven belt to define my waist and teamed with fashion-forward wedge heel espadrilles for an instant infusion of summer.
Every outfit needs a bag, and the faux leather cross body bag in black is the final touch needed to complete my first summer look. This is the epitome of summer styling; flowing cotton, feminine prints and braided leather that creates an effortlessly glamorous look that is perfect for sunny weekends. I cannot wait to wear this everywhere.
Summer Denim and Romantic Blouson
Marks and Spencer denim is my go-to staple for all seasons, the Ivy mid-rise Skinny cut is my favourite, so flattering, incredibly comfortable and can be dressed up or down with the change of a shoe. I’m so passionate about these jeans that I now own a pair in every available colour.
For an easy to wear, relaxed summer look I styled the ‘Ivy’ denim with the most beautiful, light and floaty blouson blouse, tying at the waist for an on-trend curve cinching detail. Adding a wide brim sun hat and wedge espadrille to create a subtly romantic, easy to wear look for the long hot days of summer.
To adapt this look for evening, trade indigo denim for sleek black and add nude strappy heels to complete. I love how I can transform this look simply by changing the colour of my jeans. The fabric of the blouse is softest lightweight eco-viscose that drapes perfectly as it keeps you looking and feeling cool too.
I hope you have enjoyed joining me on my high summer style update with Marks and Spencer. Not only have I created my perfect outfits, I’ve also got quite a Wishlist for the coming months. I definitely feel a certain pink skirt will be making its way into my wardrobe very soon.
