Taking time to look after yourself is vital for your wellbeing. I am busier than ever and it’s important to supercharge my down-time by dedicating it to the most rewarding and rejuvenating experiences. Being able to enjoy a little spa treatment at home is the perfect way to add a little luxury to everyday.
On a daily basis, I take my time with my skincare routine, incorporating massage to maximise results as well as relaxation. I also enjoy daily dry brushing and I have partnered with The Oxford Brush Company to share my favourite dry brush as well as a new element that I have added to my weekly spa routine, a skin relaxing treatment.
My Daily Spa Treatment – Dry Brushing
I have owned many dry brushes. I have been dry brushing for years and I have sampled all kinds of shapes and sizes over the years. There is a knack to choosing the right brush and to brushing effectively, but it is not difficult and it’s not really time consuming either.
The first step is finding the right dry brush. I prefer a brush with a strap handle, it makes it so much easier to sweep over the harder to reach areas without having to grip tightly. The Oxford Brush Company offer quite a few designs, but each is the highest quality. My preferred choice can be purchased on their website and works well due to its large size, stiff bristle and hand-crafted design.
To dry brush, your skin and brush must be dry, pre-shower is ideal, and you simply start at your toes, brushing upwards, towards your heart in long strokes. Brushing should happen daily and it should not hurt, don’t be tempted to press too hard and avoid any broken skin. I love dry brushing for so many reasons. Firstly, it is a very cost effective exfoliation treatment, that allows me to re-focus my beauty budget away from chemical based scrubs and onto other things. My exfoliated skin means that moisturiser actually penetrates the skin more easily, improving any benefits.
Skin brushing improves circulation, which in turn has made my skin more even in tone. Goodbye mottled legs. Lymph drainage is also improved with brushing, which is why I originally started, it helps removes toxins from your skin. Another benefit is it’s ability to even out the deposits of fat beneath the skin (the stuff that rewards us with orange peel bits), meaning smoother, firmer wobbly bits. Not only that, but it feels really good, the process gives me a little burst of energy in the morning that really helps put a spring in my step that totally makes up for five minutes less in bed. Taking five minutes to reward myself with mini at-home spa treatment is the best way to start any day.
A relaxing treat
With my morning routine so well practised, my evening spa routine was in-need of some much needed work. So, I was delighted to incorporate a few moments of relaxing skin massage to help wind down for sleep.
The Ostrich Feather Skin Relaxer is an all natural relaxing spa-like treatment that I use each evening on my face, neck and shoulders to brush away the strains of the day. I tend to hold the day’s tension in my brow, neck and shoulders and after I’ve cleansed away the make-up and grime from the long slog. I gently swipe the super-soft feathers downwards, starting at my forehead and then moving downwards towards the heart. The effect is simply wonderful and is the best aid to start an evening of restful sleep.
My home spa treatments have been seriously improved with a soothing hand from The Oxford Brush Company. I know you will love it too.
